    Arica is right on the border (or the Frontier as it's called there) with the Peruvian town of Tacna. Some pix of where I lived in Playa Chinchoro sector of Arica.     These are of gold panning/mining in the Peruvian jungle in 2007. This was a few dozens klik's from Puerto Maldonado. In other words, the middle of nowhere jungle. The only reason anyone was there was the gold. And they were stripping/raping the jungle with heavy equipment too. Do you know what "hi-banking" is? It's illegal everywhere, even in Peru except when they can get away with it. My buddy...
